Cultural Exploration at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary

At St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate, a fascinating voyage of cultural and heritage exploration took place, transcending borders and boundaries. Students from all year groups delved into the rich tapestry of global cultures, gaining insights into diverse people and places from around the world.

Around the World in a Day

The journey began with Early Years Foundation Studies pupils embarking on a virtual excursion to France, just across the English Channel. They immersed themselves in French culture by coloring the national flag, learning basic greetings and numbers in French, and indulging in delicious croissants.

Key Stage 1 students then turned their attention to Nigeria. Through map exploration, they discovered the country’s unique climate, wildlife, markets, cuisine, music, and vibrant design patterns.

Lower Key Stage 2 pupils set their sights on Italy. They compared human and physical features between Italy and the UK while exploring iconic landmarks like Mount Etna in Sicily. Additionally, they marveled at the diverse shapes of pasta enjoyed across different regions of Italy.

India captured the curiosity of Upper Key Stage 2 students. From mapping out landmarks to studying rivers and climate patterns using graphs – students dived into India’s geography with enthusiasm. The exploration extended to tasting various Indian delicacies and discovering facts about the Himalayas.

Enriching Learning Experience

Rosie Hart, St Gregory’s Geography Lead expressed delight at witnessing how children embraced diversity through this immersive experience. She emphasized how crucial it is for young minds to celebrate different cultures authentically.

Head Teacher Dave Walker echoed Rosie’s sentiments by highlighting how this educational journey fostered a deeper understanding of various cultures among all school members. The day trip not only celebrated differences but also unearthed commonalities that unite us globally.
