As I sit down to write this letter, emotions swirl within me. The future is uncertain, but expressing my gratitude feels essential. Let me take you on a journey through my experiences and reflections as part of the Division of Violence Prevention.
Eight years ago, I embarked on this path as a young, enthusiastic MPH student. The opportunity to work in an organization dedicated to violence prevention was a dream come true for me. It all began with a poignant encounter at a domestic violence shelter in Henry County. A woman’s harrowing tale of abuse and resilience touched my soul deeply.
She arrived broken and bruised, seeking refuge from her tormentor’s cruelty. In that moment, as I comforted her and saw the glimmer of hope in her eyes, I realized the profound impact we could make in people’s lives. Her story, along with countless others’, propelled me towards this noble cause.
Each member of our division bears their own stories of pain and healing, making our bond truly special. Our collective experiences have shaped us into a community fueled by compassion and determination. Together, we have cultivated a sanctuary of strength and commitment, striving to create a world free from violence.
Amidst organizational changes and uncertainties looming ahead, I find myself not just mourning potential job loss but also bidding farewell to a supportive work environment like no other. The camaraderie shared among us is unparalleled; within these walls, I found understanding and kinship that transcend mere professional relationships.
The prospect of parting ways weighs heavy on my heart as I reflect on the remarkable collaborations and friendships forged here. It has been an honor beyond words to collaborate with such talented and compassionate individuals who have become more than colleagues—they are my cherished friends.
