Celebrating 10 Years of QuestBridge

Washington and Lee University Celebrates Success of QuestBridge Program
December 11, 2024
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, December 2 marked a significant day for many aspiring students and their families as college matches through the QuestBridge program were announced. This national initiative connects high-achieving, low-income students with opportunities to attend prestigious colleges and universities across the country.

John Wolfgang, assistant director of admissions at Washington and Lee University, expressed his excitement in welcoming a new cohort of QuestBridge students to campus. He described these students as the trailblazers of the entering class, emphasizing the gratification of getting to know them throughout the application process.

In 2024, Washington and Lee University commemorates a decade of partnership with QuestBridge, having recently graduated its 10th class of QuestBridge scholars. Since 2010, the university has enrolled 326 students through QuestBridge’s match program, which collaborates with over 50 colleges, including Ivy League institutions and other elite schools. QuestBridge applicants showcase strong academic performance, leadership qualities, resilience, and a drive to succeed despite challenges.

The application process emphasizes a holistic review, highlighting students’ unique stories and strengths. Eligible students can apply to partner colleges for free and rank up to 15 schools in order of preference. Once matched with a college, students commit to attending that institution, receiving a full four-year scholarship covering tuition, fees, and accommodation.

Washington and Lee University’s partnership with QuestBridge aligns with its need-blind admission policy and commitment to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need. The university’s additional financial aid infrastructure complements the support offered through QuestBridge, creating a comprehensive system to recruit and assist talented students from diverse backgrounds.

QuestBridge scholars at Washington and Lee University, such as Hân Huynh and Isabel Duarte, express gratitude for the warm welcome and support they have received on campus. Huynh reflects on the resilience and strength of QuestBridge students, while Duarte encourages prospective applicants to connect with faculty and peers for guidance during the application process.

As alumni like Elizabeth Mugo and Abdurrafey Khan continue to engage with the QuestBridge community, they highlight the lasting impact of the program on their personal and professional development. The network and support provided by QuestBridge extend beyond graduation, fostering relationships and opportunities for success.

Washington and Lee University’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for QuestBridge students underscores the university’s dedication to diversity, inclusion, and academic excellence. Through partnerships like QuestBridge, the university continues to empower students to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to campus life and beyond.
