New iOS 18.2 feature will ‘change the way we make music forever,’ says Michael Bublé – 9to5Mac

The latest iOS 18.2 update is now live for iPhone users, and a standout feature is receiving accolades from renowned musician Michael Bublé, often referred to as the king of Christmas. Here’s a rundown of what’s fresh in Voice Memos with iOS 18.2.

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro back in September, it teased a forthcoming feature in Voice Memos that had the potential to be groundbreaking for musicians.

Enter Layered Recordings, the new Voice Memos feature that is exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, and is currently accessible in iOS 18.2.

Described by Apple as tailored for musicians, this feature enables users to effortlessly overlay a high-quality vocal track onto an existing instrumental piece, opening up new avenues for musical creativity, voiceovers, and artistic exploration.

Equipped with top-notch microphones and user-friendly controls, the iPhone 16 Pro paired with Voice Memos allows individuals to lay down vocals on top of a musical idea without the necessity of headphones. For more advanced editing and production, layered recordings can be imported into Logic Pro as a two-track project, streamlining the process for top-notch music production.

In a notable endorsement, Michael Bublé utilized this feature to record vocals for his latest festive tune, “Maybe This Christmas.”

Apple has released a new video showcasing Bublé and his creative team discussing the Voice Memos update.

In a poignant remark towards the end of the video, Bublé expresses, “I honestly think this is going to revolutionize the way we create music forever. I truly believe it.”
