In a strategic move to strengthen their defensive line, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors recently acquired the seasoned center back, Kim Young-bin. This signing comes as part of the club’s comprehensive effort to fortify their defense after experiencing vulnerabilities in the previous season.
Kim Young-bin, aged 33, brings a wealth of experience to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, having spent the last five seasons with Gangwon FC. Prior to his tenure at Gangwon FC, he played for Gwangju FC and Sangju Sangmu FC for six years each. A standout in collegiate soccer, Kim transitioned into a stalwart defender upon his K League debut in 2014. Throughout his career, he has participated in an impressive 326 matches across various competitions over the span of a decade.
After finishing disappointingly in 10th place out of 12 clubs in the K League 1 last season, Jeonbuk has been proactive during the offseason to revamp their squad. Noteworthy changes include appointing former Sunderland manager Gus Poyet as their new head coach and welcoming back former goalkeeper Song Bum-keun after his stint in Japan following five successful seasons with Jeonbuk.
The 2024 season saw Jeonbuk concede a league-high 59 goals in 38 matches with a goal difference of -11, ranking as the third-worst record in the K League 1. With Kim Young-bin on board, Jeonbuk aims to bolster their defensive capabilities alongside their existing core defenders.
