Foggy Morning in India’s Capital
In the heart of India, Delhi woke up to a serene yet foggy morning that painted the city in misty hues. The humidity levels fluctuated between 79% and 95%, enveloping the city in a mysterious cloak.
A Glimpse into Delhi’s Climate
As per the observations by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature settled at 8.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average. A gentle drizzle accompanied by fog attempted to wash over Delhi; however, it failed to uplift the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI stubbornly lingered in the ‘severe’ category at 406 for the second consecutive day, as reported by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.
Understanding Air Quality Index
The classification of AQI ranges from ‘good’ (0-50) to ‘satisfactory’ (51-100), ‘moderate’ (101-200), ‘poor’ (201-300), ‘very poor’ (301-400), and finally ‘severe’ (401-500). Despite light rain showers, Delhi found itself trapped under a canopy of severe air pollution.
Challenges Presented by Weather Conditions
The weather conditions added an extra layer of complexity with a maximum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 2.3 degrees below the seasonal norm following morning drizzles across select areas of Delhi.
Future Weather Projections
The forecast from IMD predicts cloudy skies and sporadic light rainfall on Tuesday. Anticipated maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle at 19 and 9 degrees Celsius respectively as residents brace themselves for another day under varying meteorological patterns.
This narrative encapsulates how even nature’s attempts to cleanse through drizzles can fall short when combating severe air quality issues plaguing urban environments like Delhi.
