“Abortion bans don’t actually prevent abortions from happening,”

The rise in pill-induced abortions predates the legislative changes but has become more prevalent with telehealth services now offering prescriptions remotely.
By mid-2024, approximately one in ten abortions were facilitated through telemedicine-prescribed pills—a practice coming under legal scrutiny with cases like Texas suing out-of-state providers over telehealth prescriptions raising concerns over federal regulations governing such practices.
While clinics shuttered their doors or ceased providing abortion services in states with restrictive laws, there emerged a network facilitating travel for individuals seeking lawful avenues for termination outside their home state borders—underscoring issues related to equity and access within healthcare systems.
The Guttmacher Institute discovered that Texans sought abortions across state lines significantly; with New Mexico witnessing twice as many Texan residents availing themselves of procedures compared to local residents—an indication of how restrictive laws drive individuals towards neighboring regions where policies are less prohibitive.
Financial support through various organizations like abortion funds played a crucial role in aiding those seeking reproductive healthcare amidst legal challenges; however, constraints on funding availability underscored persistent barriers faced by marginalized communities during times of crisis.
